Summer School Transition Programme - Summer 2025
6 May 2025
Waltham Forest are pleased to share an opportunity for secondary schools to apply for grants to run secondary transition programmes in summer 2025.
Funded by the Waltham Forest Leaders Pledge, Waltham Forest Secondary Transition Programme offers funding to deliver a blend of academic education, enriching activities, and nutritious meals to school-aged children and young people who are experiencing a transition in education from year 6 to year 7 who would benefit from additional learning and support during the summer holidays. This programme looks to target support for students who have highlighted as requiring additional support to improve their school attendance, attainment, and well-being .
The programme is available for secondary schools to apply for a grant to support their students who are transitioning from year 6 to year 7:
- Schools are encouraged to work with their feeder schools to highlight children who may benefit from attendance.
- The local authority will provide lists of incoming children who have been highlighted by services as having low attendance in primary or have other vulnerabilities.
The Secondary Transition Programme is intended to provide schools an opportunity to support pupils’ wellbeing. Schools must include enrichment activities, such as team games, music, drama or sports activities.
The funded places must be free to eligible participants. However, should the school wish to deliver wider provision to students that fall outside of the targeted list above the school is able to charge families for attendance.
To apply for the funding please complete the application from and return to Fern Edwards Fern.Edwards@walthamforest.gov.uk by Friday 6 June 2025. If you are having difficulty meeting this deadline and would like to apply for funding please do not hesitate to contact Fern Edwards or Kayla Whiting to discuss options.
