The Safeguarding and Welfare pages provides statutory guidance and support to schools, services and Early Years settings to ensure that children are kept safe and their welfare is promoted, as required by Section 175 of the Education Act 2002. Statutory guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023 (updated 1 July 2022), Keeping Children Safe in Education (2023) and Waltham Forest Children Safeguarding Board (WFSCB) procedures help to inform the work of the service and any good practice guidance that is developed.
Safeguarding children is everybody's responsibility and adults have a duty to report abuse. There is a range of statutory guidance that should be followed, including in the areas listed below.
Child Neglect Toolkit
Following the Local Child Safeguarding Practice Review (LCSPR) for Children L, the Quality of Care Toolkit was developed. This toolkit supports professionals in identifying and responding to potential child neglect for children aged 0 to18 and provides a structured approach to analysing a child’s needs and their family circumstances, helping practitioners determine what should happen next.
It can assist in developing a clear plan of support or in deciding when to involve another agency. Neglect that is not addressed often worsens, and meaningful change is unlikely without timely intervention. Early action makes a significant difference. This toolkit can be used to consider the circumstances of all children within a household.
