Safety Report: Adjustable Motorised Screens

The following safety points has been outlined in a report regarding motorised adjustable screens in school settings:

  • There is a risk of serious crushing or impact injury to children which may arise from the equipment detaching from the wall and falling forward. 
  • There is also a risk of serious crushing injury to children between the bottom edge of the display screen and any fixed objects. the bottom edge of the display screen and any fixed objects. 
  • The machine does not satisfy the requirements of The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 and suspended from use.  
  • Users of these or similar motorised height adjustable display mounts that do not include an anti-collision device or similar protective features should contact the machine manufacturer or their supplier for advice on measures that can be taken to eliminate or reduce risks. 
  • ADDITIONAL items that may be secure to walls and ceilings should be regularly checked for signs of movement or pulling from the wall/ceiling
  • The securing nut / washer and substrate fixed into wall can all be marked with permanent marker/paint. This provides an inexpensive method used to check for movement. This is often done if the screw has been tampered with or loosened. Marking screw heads can be useful for ensuring that the screw remains in place and has not been altered.
