Measles update
16 April 2026
Locally, we are still seeing cases of measles appear each month, even though in some boroughs the number of cases seems to be declining compared to first months of 2026.
This highlights the importance of continuing to take actions to prevent the spread and reduce the impact of measles in schools. Measles is highly contagious and has the potential to spread across schools very quickly due to the high number of pupils in close contact with each other.
Asks on schools:
- Schools are reminded to take actions to prevent the spread of infectious diseases at their settings -Preventing and controlling infections
- Schools are encouraged to work with Vaccination UK to facilitate visits to their setting to administer vaccinations - Supporting immunisation programmes. T: 0208 017 4291 Email: Walthamforest@vaccinationuk.co.uk
- The measles education pack provides information for school staff on what to do before, during and after a measles incident at their setting. Staff are encouraged to read and implement actions
