Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)
Who are the VAWG team and what they do?
- Commission therapeutic and advocacy services, including refuges in the borough.
- Delivering training to increase awareness of issues related to violence against women and girls including bystander/upstander training.
- Contribute to and coordinate multi-agency safeguarding and support planning.
- Co-ordinate domestic abuse drop-in service in Children and Family Hubs.
- Developed a street-based harassment reporting app, called ‘Safe Streets’.
VAWG Schools Offer
Based on the London Borough of Waltham Forest’s 15-minute neighbourhood concept, we will be working with schools, colleges, and alternative provision across the borough to support educational settings to be more informed on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) related issues and how to provide adequate trauma-informed support for their students.
Through workshops for students, training for all staff and policy support, we hope to create a safer environment for students and staff. We will provide schools a menu of sessions from which they can choose the topics that relate to the school, including peer to peer work on VAWG, overview sessions and the bystander approach.
- Inform schools to work in a trauma-informed way
- Support schools to put in preventative measure in relation to VAWG
- Co-ordinate and commission external organisations to deliver bespoke training and workshops
- Work with schools to ensure effective collaboration with external organisations
- Support from VAWG Prevention and Support worker and/or VAWG Prevention and Intervention Worker
- Visible comms around schools that VAWG is not tolerated
