Stop and Search Advocacy Programme

Spark2Life have been commissioned by the London borough of Waltham Forest to deliver an Advocacy and Support Service for young people around stop and search interactions with the police. The overarching aim of this project is to tackle disparity and improve the relationship, trust and confidence between young people and the police through community involvement and enabling a rights-based approach.

What is on offer for schools and young people

The project has two strands: an advocacy and complaints service and educational assemblies. The advocacy and complaints service aims to provide a quick and responsive process for young people to make complaints and receive advice concerning interactions with the police.

We empower students by notifying them about our advocacy service and informing them about their rights and responsibility pertaining to stop and search engagements with the police.

In delivery we cover the following subjects:

  • Stop and Search statistics and figures
  • Engagement and Conduct with the Police
  • Items police look for during a stop and search
  • Self-Awareness
  • The complaints procedure
  • Feedback
