Infant Feeding Services

There is clear evidence breastfeeding improves child and maternal health in a number of ways. Find out about support we offer for infant feeding in Waltham Forest.

Breastfeeding has been shown to improve cognitive development, parent-infant relationships and childhood mental health.

It has also been found to be a protective factor against childhood obesity and reduce the risk of obesity in later life.

In Waltham Forest, although breastfeeding initial rates are high at 90.7%, by the time the baby is 6 to 8 weeks old almost a quarter of these will have stopped breastfeeding altogether.

Families who bottle feed may also wish for non-judgemental support to feed their baby in a safe and healthy way which supports parent-infant relationships.

Our team of friendly infant feeding practitioners are here to offer practical and emotional support to families whether breastfeeding, bottle-feeding or mixed feeding.

We provide the following services to families in Waltham Forest:

  • Drop-in sessions at Child Health Clinics and alongside other children's services to provide 1:1 support to parents with feeding their children
  • We offer phone support and home visits when it's impractical for people to attend drop-in sessions. To speak to a member of the team ring 020 8496 5222
  • Working with other services in the borough to help achieve UNICEF's Baby Friendly accreditation, ensuring that we provide an environment that supports parents to develop close and loving relationships with their children
