The Havens would like to invite Children’s Social Care professionals across London boroughs to join one of our free online awareness sessions on Child Sexual Abuse and Haven Pathways.

We understand that child sexual abuse and exploitation can have a long-lasting impact on children and young people. These sessions are designed to improve professionals’ awareness of the support available, strengthen confidence in decision-making and provide greater clarity around referral pathways.

The Havens provides the specialist forensic service Pan London for children and young people following sexual assault. Our role complements the work of local Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) hubs, which provide important non-forensic assessment and support.

Understanding the distinction between these services — and knowing when, how and where to refer — is essential to ensuring children and young people access the right care at the right time.

This is a session designed to support anyone whose role involves regular contact with children and/or those responsible for children, reinforcing that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility; the training provides space to reflect on individual roles in safeguarding, equips participants to identify and act on concerns, and focuses on effective multi‑agency communication and information sharing, key emerging themes and trends in safeguarding and child protection, referral and assessment processes when concerns are identified, and learning from the most recent research, publications, and reports on safeguarding.

Child sexual abuse takes many forms, but research suggests that a significant amount of sexual abuse is carried out by people known to the child – which can include by brothers and sisters.

This free one-hour webinar aims to help professionals negotiate the complexities raised by these sexual behaviours, using our Sibling sexual behaviour practice resource.

A SACRE (Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education) is a permanent, statutory local body required by law in the UK to advise local authorities on religious education (RE) and collective worship in maintained schools. 

Key Functions

• Advisory Role: Advises the local council on methods of teaching, classroom materials, and teacher training for RE and collective worship.
• Syllabus Oversight: Monitors the locally agreed RE syllabus, which must be reviewed every five years.  – WF currently reviewing the RE syllabus for 2026-2031
• Annual Reporting: Publishes an annual report detailing its activities and progress in local schools. 

Membership Structure

• In England, a SACRE is made up of four representative groups:
• Group A: Christian denominations (other than the Church of England) and other local faith and belief traditions.
• Group B: The Church of England.
• Group C: Teacher professional associations.
• Group D: Local authority councillors and representatives.
