Disordered Eating Webinar: Improving referrals and supporting young people

Time: 2:30-4pm

Audience: This event is suitable for school leaders, teachers, GP’s, youth workers, parents and carers. 

This webinar will help professionals working with young people and families to better improve their understanding of disordered eating. The webinar will explore the key principles and learning from our recently published Disordered Eating Guidance in more detail. 

Aims

  • Raise awareness of Disordered Eating 

  • Improve understanding of the referral process for Disordered Eating and Eating Disorders 

  • Improve support for young people and families before, during and after any treatment

Children and young people's gaming and gambling harm prevention training for professionals

The Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM) are working across all 32 London boroughs with the London Safeguarding Children Partnerships Leads to offer training

YGAM are committed to a social purpose to inform, educate, and safeguard children and young people against gaming and gambling harms. 

YGAM have arranged a number of sessions across the 11 January and 2 February for a range of professionals working in the London Boroughs

The FREE training sessions re relevant for teachers, youth workers, health professionals, social workers, foster carers, universities, and community leaders

Monday 6 February, South Grove Primary School

Bringing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UN Rights Respecting programme to life in your school

Time: 3.45pm to 5pm, South Grove Primary School

In this free training and networking event teachers from Whitehall Primary School and South Grove Primary school will share:

  • their approaches and top tips for teaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN Rights Respecting programme
  • how they've become part of the school curriculum and culture

We'll discuss how these initiatives relate to climate justice, which is one of the themes in the Waltham Forest Schools & Collages Climate Charter.

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2023 is the 16th annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships.

This year, NAW runs from Monday 6 to Sunday 12 February 2023.

The 16-17 Participation Service is hosting online webinars on post 16 options, apprenticeships, and traineeships.

FGM Awareness Event

Monday 6 February marks the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. 

On this day the Waltham Forest Council will be hosting an FGM conference aimed at spreading knowledge to eradicate FGM. 

The event will have keynote speakers who will share information around FGM and what support Is being provided and response for those affected or those at risk.   

This event will take place on Monday 6 February 2023, 10:00 – 12:00 GMT Council Chamber, Waltham Forest Town Hall Forest Road London E17 4JF.

Supporting the whole primary school approach to mental health & wellbeing webinar

Taking a coordinated and evidence-informed approach to mental health in schools and colleges leads to improved pupil and student wellbeing, which, in turn, can improve learning. By joining this webinar, you will hear from school teaching staff who will share their experiences and examples of how they’ve been implementing this in practice and the positive outcomes of this in their school since.

The webinar will also provide information about accessing Department for Education’s (DfE) grant funding of £1,200 for eligible state-funded schools and colleges in England to train a senior mental health lead to develop and implement a whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing.

The session is an opportunity to ask questions and hear from fellow education professionals. There is no cost to joining the webinar, but pre-registration is required.

Primary School Parent Workshop - Gangs & Drugs Awareness

The Youth At Risk Service are working in partnership with the Police and CGL (Change Grow Live) to offer virtual support awareness workshops for parents.  

The target audience are the parents/carers of primary school aged children transitioning into secondary education. These workshop which will be delivered via Microsoft Teams and will inform and empower parents/carers to be able to safeguard and support their children.

Waltham Forest Education Conference 2023

The annual Waltham Forest Education Conference will be taking place between Monday 27 February to Friday 3 March 2023. 

This year's conference theme and focus will be: Building Excellence through strong partnerships and successful systems. 

During the week there will be information, discussion and training opportunities for school leaders, specialist staff and business staff in a range of topical areas including Climate Change and school asset management, Post-16, Jobs Skills and Growth, Safeguarding, Financial Resilience and health in schools and much more.

Disordered Eating Webinar: Effective approaches and joint working

Time: 2-3:30pm 

Audience: This event is suitable for health professionals supporting young people with disordered eating including CAMHS, Pediatricians, Community Eating Disorder services, alternatives to admissions, DBT teams, Neurodiversity teams.  

Aims:

This webinar will support health professionals to improve their understanding of disordered eating and explore joint working approaches. The webinar will explore the key principles and learning from our recently published Disordered Eating Guidance in more detail. 

  • Raise awareness of Disordered Eating Guidance
  • Share practice on joint working approaches between teams (mental/physical health teams, inpatient/community/alternatives to admission)
  • Share practice on management approaches from referral, treatment to recovery
