  • LA data collection deadlines for 2023 
  • Getting year 11 cohort correct for the DfE, including vulnerable groups 
  • Intended destinations (also known as September Guarantee) for schools and colleges
  • Actual destinations for the year 11 Activity Survey
  • The relationship with Destination Measures
  • Gatsby Benchmark 3 and data collection

Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities (SFSC) Workshop

During March, Waltham Forest Council are offering free parenting workshops to parent/carers in Waltham Forest with a child aged 3-18 years old.

All workshops are free and inclusive.

The workshops will be held from 6pm to 8pm at Leyton Children and Family Centre, 215 Queens Road, E178PJ.

  • Workshop One: 9  March 2023 - To enable parents to think reflectively about their own experience of being parents and how this impacts their current parenting choices 
  • Workshop Two: 16 March 2023 - To help parents positively connect to their children and understand the benefits of developing close warm relationships as a protective factor in parenting. 
  • Workshop Three: 23 March 2023 - To help parents gain the confidence to use positive discipline methods and understand their role and responsibility in providing children with a process of discipline consistent with protective factors to increase positive outcomes. 

Workshop Four: 30 March 2023 - To help parents understand their role and responsibilities to support children in and through various stages of transition from childhood to adulthood

This Primary mathematics network will support Maths Leads to strengthen colleagues’ subject knowledge and pedagogy when delivering the national curriculum and provide materials to support planning and assessment

CYP MH Equalities Listening Project Report Launch

Time: 3:30pm-5pm. 

This event is open to all and will include a panel discussion with young people.

The listening project was a collaboration between Black Thrive, Hammersmith, Fulham, Ealing and Hounslow Mind and Partnership for Young London with Transformation Partners in Health and Care to understand the experience of mental health service provision and hear the views of young people from Asian, Black and Latin American backgrounds. 

The report outlines the findings and insights from the listening project. It includes personal stories from young people, a set of recommendations for system leaders and service providers as well as a set of examples of good practice to offer guidance in how to address avoidable health inequalities that our young people are experiencing with their mental health and experiences of service provision in London.

  • To share the findings from the listening project and launch the insight report.
  • Share positive practice examples of what services and systems could consider the mental health and wellbeing of young people from Asian, Black and Latin American backgrounds. 
  • Explore the recommendations and actions from the listening project and next steps locally and regionally.

Sunday 19 March

Pak Cultural Society event - Ghausia Hall

Pak Cultural Society is a community group in Waltham Forest which began operating in 2007. Their main focus is children and young people who were born in the UK but have relatives back home in Pakistan. 

Pak Cultural Society create opportunities for children and young people to keep them in touch with their culture. To do so, the society hold regular events, where children sing, dance, do parody, painting and so forth. 

Annually, two major events are held - one on the occasion of Pakistan Day (23 March); and the second on the 14 August - the Independence Day of Pakistan. 

in 2023, the Pak Cultural Society event in March is being held on 19 March, as Ramadan is starts on 22 March. The event will be held in Ghausia Hall, 119-121 Grove Road E179BU, from 3 -7pm.

Pak Cultural Society are looking for children between the ages of 6-15 years, who are interested in taking part in this event by participating in activities like singing and dancing with Pakistani songs or for the chance to partake in some parody. Training for the event will take place on the following days:

Monday and Friday: 4:30 to 6:30pm

Saturday and Sunday:  3:30 to 5:30pm

World Down Syndrome Day

World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on March 21 2023, where global events take place to raise awareness of Down Syndrome. The theme this year is ‘With Us Not For Us’ and people with Down Syndrome will be coming together to talk about why they should be involved in decisions about their lives. 

Wear mismatched, bright and colourful socks to get noticed for The Lots of Socks campaign. Post your feet using this hashtag: #LotsofSocks.

SENDsuccess will be delivering the training ‘Teaching Whole Word Reading Strategies to children with Down Syndrome.’ on 22 March 2023 at 3.45pm.

Introduction to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Role

For new DSL’s only

This 6 hour course is aimed at individuals who are either new to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) role or wanting to develop their skills in safeguarding with a view to undertaking a senior role in safeguarding within their school or college.

Attendees completing this course will be knowledgeable on how to undertake the statutory role of DSL within an education setting.
They will be aware of the powers and responsibilities held by other agencies and be able to participate effectively in multi-disciplinary safeguarding activity.

Free showcase for teachers, educators and PSHE leads

In March, the UpFront Theatre Company will be touring their new sold out PSHE play: Before Anyone Else. Created in response to the #MeToo movement, the play and interactive lecture explores consent, relationships and sexuality. 

Students are invited to identify positive vs. negative relationships and offer advice on how to end toxic relationships. 

Recommended for Year 9+. 

Unfortunately, this event is fully booked, however, the UpFront Theatre Company are offering a free showcase for teachers, educators and PSHE leads on Wednesday 22 March.

Venue: Stratford East Theatre Studio. Doors 5pm - show at 5:30pm.

This 6 hour course is aimed at experienced Designated Safeguarding Leads working in Schools and Colleges. It is a fast paced refresher to the role of the DSL and will bring attendees up to speed with the latest developments to safeguarding within the education sector.

The Hive runs half-termly Climate Action teach-meets on different themes for the borough’s growing network of Eco-Leads. They are open to all school staff. The Spring 2 session is on teaching how to measure a carbon footprint.

Healthy Relationship Awareness Primary School Parent Workshop

The Youth At Risk Service are working in partnership with the Police to offer virtual support awareness workshops for parents.  

The target audience are the parents/carers of primary school aged children transitioning into secondary education. 

These workshops will be delivered via Microsoft Teams from 6pm until 7:30pm and will inform and empower parents/carers to be able to safeguard and support their children.

Children and young people's gaming and gambling harm prevention training for professionals

As a result of the success of the joint London Safeguarding Children Partnership (LSCP) and Young People's Gaming and Gambling (YGAM) harm prevention workshops that took place across all 32 London boroughs in January and February, LSCP are running two additional free online sessions on the 28 March and 26 April to provide those who missed them, the opportunity to attend.

Sessions are suitable for safeguarding staff, teachers, wellbeing staff, heads, support staff, youth practitioners and any staff member who may have direct contact or deliver to children and young people.

The LSCP sessions are scheduled for the following dates:

National Careers Week Fair for pupils in years 9, 10 & 11

Location: Waltham Forest College 707 Forest Road, London E17 4JB.

The Local London Careers Hub East is working in partnership with Waltham Forest College to host a National Careers Week fair for pupils across Waltham Forest, Newham and Enfield.

The event is aimed at Year 9/10/11 pupils and the main purpose of this event is to give pupils the opportunity to engage and speak to as many employers, training providers and FE/HE colleges as possible to make an informative decision post-16.

The careers fair will also enable pupils to get a hands-on, tangible experience of some of the most inspirational career options in a range of sectors and ensure a legacy provision where students can access future work visits and placements.

At this event, pupils can explore practical examples from innovative companies and researchers. We hope this will stimulate ideas for future career opportunities.

We will be running three sessions for this event 

  • 9:30 - 11:30am
  • 12:00 - 2:00pm 
  • 2:30 - 4:30pm

Each school may book a place for a minimum of 15 students and a max of 30 students. Please only book one session per school.
