Waltham Forest Prevent - All Staff Prevent training 90 minutes

Also referred to as Workshop to Raise Awareness of Prevent (WRAP), this session is delivered via the local authority Prevent in Education offer and is recommended for all education settings to ensure all staff gain a detailed and up-to-date understanding of Prevent and their responsibilities within the duty.

In Waltham Forest, we recommend this training on roughly a two-year basis or at times of high staff turnover (although online standalone sessions are offered for new starters, trainees and Early Career Teachers). The session can be delivered face-to-face or online.

The content of the course includes the following topics:

  • The Prevent Duty and how this is applied in education settings
  • What is violent extremism?
  • Understanding ideologies, risk and threat both nationally and locally
  • What is radicalisation?
  • Identifying indicators of concern
  • Reporting and referral processes in Waltham Forest

Home Office online learning

E-learning from the Home Office is available and is designed to help raise awareness of radicalisation.

It is aimed at those with responsibilities under the Prevent duty, particularly frontline staff.

It aims to l help staff to identify the signs that someone may be at risk and where to go for support. This is introductory training. It provides a foundation on which to develop further knowledge around the risks of radicalisation.

Channel training online

Practitioners are encouraged to complete the Channel e-learning module, which provides information on referrals and the intervention programme utilised for concerns relating to radicalisation and violent extremism.

It aims to build understanding of the duties and responsibilities that practitioners have in this safeguarding process.

Evidence of participating in this course can also be verified through the printing of a certificate, available once all sections have been completed.
