Teachers pensions

The teachers pensions administration service discharges the Council’s responsibility as the accountable body for teachers’ pensions in maintained schools and local authority education services. This is a centrally funded service.

The Teachers Pension Administration service:

  • ensures that governing bodies carry out their responsibilities to competently discharge their payroll functions in relation to teachers’ pensions
  • collects and checks the monthly employee and employer contributions and uploads them to the Teachers’ Pensions Agency (TPA)
  • collates, checks and completes of the end of year certificate for the total annual contributions collected for all teachers
  • collects and uploads of the Monthly data Collection (MDC) return, which is used by the TPA to update members’ individual contributions records
  • responds to miscellaneous TPA enquiries
  • responds to members’ enquiries, largely on service gaps or ‘missing years’
  • ensures maintained schools are compliant with the TPA regulations
