Bereavement School Support

Child Bereavement UK have information and guidance to support schools including staff and pupils impacted by a child loss / or pupils impacted by the loss of a family member.

School support

The Child Bereavement UK website has a range of information and guidance for schools.  A big part of the team do is empowering the staff to support their bereaved pupils and each other. If there has been a death in the school community, Child Bereavement UK might phone the school to talk through how they are managing it, answer any questions they might have and share strategies for support. Often it is reassuring the school staff that what they have done is ok and sending them any appropriate resources. They might make subsequent calls if the school feel like they want further support, and can also talk to them about training options. Often a bereavement support training session helps the staff to feel more confident in support the pupils as well as managing their own grief and wellbeing.

The Bereavement Awareness Training

Child Bereavement UK can provide supportive bereavement awareness training to all staff. This 90-minute bespoke session will include an understanding of grief, theories of grief, school support procedures and staff wellbeing. Schools say that this training has helped attendees personally as well as professionally, and empowered them to feel more confident when supporting their pupils, colleagues and the wider community. It also helps schools to create a more bereavement aware culture across their community, and to consider developing or updating a bereavement policy or charter. A 90-minute session costs £375, or if time is limited we can deliver reduced content in one hour for £275. This would be for an online session in an after school time slot to suit you.
