Role of School Business Managers

School Business Managers (SBMs) play a pivotal role within the education sector, ensuring our schools run effectively and efficiently and deliver a world-class education. SBMs manage the school’s budget, including forecasting income and expenditure, monitoring financial performance, and making strategic decisions to ensure that the school’s resources are used efficiently. They also manage the procurement process, ensuring schools acquires necessary equipment and supplies within a set budget. 


Responsibilities of a School Business Manager 

  • Oversee the school's financial management.

  • Oversee forecasting income and expenditure of the school’s budget. 

  • Oversee the school’s procurement of supplies and the cost of this.

  • Ensure the school’s facilities are well maintained and safe at all times.  

  • Assist with HR tasks such as the recruitment of staff.  

  • Support the Headteacher and other teaching staff with school operational tasks.

  • Ensure the school is compliant with legal requirements and regulations. 

  • Ensure the school is meeting health and safety and safeguarding requirements.
