Windrush Day 2022
4 May 2022
The council is currently looking into plans for Windrush Day in 2022 and to work in partnership with local partners and community organisations to deliver a series of events and activities between June and December 2022. The projects would be led by Windrush community groups, working together with local partners like schools, libraries, museums, elder groups and other networks.
Through cultural performances and oral and video testimonies the projects will commemorate and celebrate the arrival and contribution of the Windrush generation.
The launch event would be in Fellowship Square around 25 and 26 June 2022, to mark Windrush Day, and the lead into various activities building up to Black History Month in October 2022, and closing the project in December 2022.
The Council are really keen to work with local schools who may have already started to plan Windrush day activities. This would be a great opportunity for schools to engage with local Windrush community groups and to showcase at the festival on 25 and 26 June 2022.
Can we kindly ask you to submit your ideas of activities alongside details of any activities you already have planned for Windrush Day to firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday 6 May 2022 (I appreciate the timescale is very tight so please keep submissions brief at this stage).
The council will then be collating the different ideas to agree on a borough-wide programme for Windrush Day.
