Polio virus: NEW Information for staff
14 September 2022
NEW Information
All children aged 1 to 9 years in Waltham Forest are being offered a polio vaccination.
This is in response to polio being detected in local sewage.
Polio is a serious disease which can be fatal.
You can learn more about polio on the NHS website: Polio - NHS (www.nhs.uk).
For some children this vaccination will be an extra dose of polio vaccine, on top of their routine vaccinations. For other children it may just bring them up to date with their routine vaccinations. It is now even more important that children are fully protected against polio.
You can read more about the polio booster campaign, why this is being offered at this time and why it is important for children aged 1-9 to get this by reading our Polio Vaccination FAQ document found here.
