National Smiles Month
7 June 2021
Tooth decay is one of the most common diseases in children in the UK and in Waltham Forest. 325 children aged 0-5 years in Waltham Forest were admitted to hospital for dental extractions in 2016/17– 2018/19). Sugary drinks and food is also the biggest cause of tooth decay.
For National smiles Month we are raising awareness about lifestyle changes that can help promote healthy teeth and smiles.
Become a Water Only School to help your pupils and staff combat tooth decay, obesity and several sugar related diseases. There are rewards, incentives, and resources to support schools participating in the water Free Initiative with the Mayor of London’s Healthy Schools London.
Also parents, nurseries and Child minders can take part in our Smiles month Poster Challenge and be entered to win a prize for your child or nursery by 17 June 2021. More Information www.walthamforest.gov.uk/healthyteeth.
