Schools are encouraged to attend the launch and sign up to the charter.

With over 4000 young people in Waltham Forest aged 5 to 16 having a mental health problem, and suicide being the second leading cause of death among 15 to 29-year-olds, we recognise that there is much we can all do to support our young people thrive from an early age.

The Mental Health Charter was created by young people and outlines our commitment for every school child aged 5 to 19-year olds to support their mental and emotional wellbeing. Key actions within the charter include provision of Mental Health First Aid training for schools, provision of safe spaces and online mental health and wellbeing support.

Schools who sign up will be supported to become a Mentally Healthy School through an audit tool and will be awarded a certificate recognising their achievement.
