An Early Years Welcome from Eve McLoughlin, Head of Service

Welcome colleagues to the first term of a new academic year. For those of you that work term-time, I hope that you have had a well-earned break over the summer holidays, and for those of you that work year round I hope you managed to get a break at some time over the summer period.

This new academic year will bring with it a number of changes and challenges, such as the introduction of the new EYFS statutory guidance  on the 1st September, the revised Government COVID guidance for early years and childcare settings  which was last updated on 17th of August, and the changes to COVID 19 guidance from the Waltham Forest Public Health Team. I am sure however that you will face them with the same enthusiasm and energy as you have shown during what was a very different and difficult academic year last year, and work in partnership with us to  ensure that we achieve the very best outcomes for the children and families that we support in order to give them the very best start in life.

We are really pleased that the Council have recognised the impact that COVID has had on early years children and their families and as a result have set ‘school readiness’ as a high priority for the Council this year. Once we have confirmed the details of this high priority piece of work we will be sharing these with you and hope that you will actively engage in delivering this programme in partnership with us. So look out for more information in the Hub Newsletters over the coming months.

In the interim we will be progressing with the delivery of our commitments as set out in the Early Years COVID-19 Recovery Plan and the wide range of advice, information and training that will be available to you as part of this.

Wishing you all every success in the coming year.

Eve McLoughlin, Head of Early Years, Childcare & Business Development Service
